Wallpaper in the Parlor

During the years Sycamores was a dormitory the northwest room on the first floor was the Parlor.  An invaluable photograph from 1934 shows a baby grand piano in one corner.  We recently accepted the gift of a 1906 Wing and Son upright piano (with five pedals!) complete with its original bill of sale from Linda Young, member of an old South Hadley family.  It seems quite appropriate for the Parlor.

At the behest of Barbara Cummings, Master Guide of Historic Deerfield and a member of our committee we chose a paper designed by William Morris, named Golden Lily.  William Morris, 1834-1896, a Pre-Raphelite who was associated with the English Arts and Crafts Movement was an outstanding artist and designer as well as a leading poet and socialist.  We purchased the paper from Morris & Co in England.

The choice of paint colors and textures are again the generous gift of Tina LaLonde, Interior Designer, Elisha Beaman House, 12 Clifton Ave, Amherst, MA 1002.
